Conversion of an 18th Century Byre into a modern office complex
Project date: 2008-2009
When a Surrey based, public relations company approached us requesting, "A spectacular building which would reflect the creative nature of their work" the original building was little more than three stone walls. The client, who had extensively consulted with the local historic buildings officer, also wanted to re-create an authentic period look with an open glass fronted design and fully exposed vaulted interior.
James Ogilvie Traditional Oak Buildings produced several roof designs appropriate for the period from which one was selected and their own structural engineer validated the integrity of the design. The roof was then manufactured and assembled in our workshops, with the client able to visit at various stages to view and discuss the work.
Erection on site therefore went smoothly and we went on to design and build many further features including a hi-tech insulated roof and the fully glazed frontage. The client is delighted with the new office and reports that many visitors believe that it is the original 300 year old roof.
